WHY FTIR?
Reliable chemical insight with minimal sample preparation
FTIR spectroscopy is a powerful, non-destructive analytical technique used to evaluate molecular structure, functional groups, and material identity across a
wide range of sample types.
Identify Unknowns
Determine the chemical identity of unknown compounds, residues, contaminants, and materials.
Confirm Materials
Verify raw materials, polymers, coatings, films, and finished products against known references.
Support Investigations
Generate actionable spectral data for root cause analysis, failure investigations, and R&D decisions.
WHAT IS FTIR?
Molecular fingerprinting through infrared absorption
Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy measures how infrared light interacts with a sample. Molecules absorb specific wavelengths that correspond to vibrational modes, producing a unique spectral fingerprint.
These spectra help identify functional groups, chemical bonds, molecular structure, and material composition across solids, liquids, films, powders, coatings, and residues.
Non-Destructive Testing
Analyze materials while preserving sample integrity whenever the sample and method allow.
Functional Group Analysis
Detect chemical bonding patterns and structural signatures that distinguish materials.
Rapid Spectral Acquisition
Generate useful molecular information quickly for screening, comparison, and troubleshooting.
Broad Compatibility
Support analysis of polymers, liquids, films, powders, residues, coatings, and composites.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
How FTIR analysis works
FTIR systems use an interferometer to collect an interferogram, which is mathematically transformed into a spectrum showing infrared absorbance or transmittance versus wavenumber.
The resulting spectrum reveals molecular vibrations that can be compared to reference spectra, spectral libraries, known standards, and expert interpretation.
